Imphal, September 18 2012:
A discussion session on the problems being faced by the differently abled persons of the state was facilitated under the aegis of All Manipur Disabled and Physically Handicapped Development Association at Manipur press Club here today.
The discussion session was attended by A Mobi, President of All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU); Prof Dr W Romesh; N Tomba, Advisor of All Manipur Students Guardian Organisation and S Jashobanta, President of Handicapped Foundation Development Organisation as Presidium members.
At the end of the discussion session, a number of resolutions were also adopted.
These include pressing the government to adopt a State Policy for differently abled persons; to establish a Directorate for the differently abled persons and also to carry out mass campaign for support and care to differently abled persons in Manipur.
Taking part in the discussion, A Mobi said that differently abled persons always need the support of normal persons.
Although the government reserves 3% quota for differently abled persons, yet they have not been able to enjoy the benefit in certain fields.
So, we all need to come together and help the differently abled persons in their struggle.
L Umakanta, Convener of Joint Student Coordination Committee, who was also present on the occasion, stated that there are various instances where differently abled persons perform better than the so-called normal persons.
