Counting for 40 ZP seats completes

COUNTING OF votes for the recent 4th General Panchayat elections in four valley districts of the state has completed in respect of 40 seats of Zilla Parishad while the counting for Pradhans and Members is underway.
It is said that counting of votes under ROs of Jiribam,Nambol and Bishnupur has been almost completed.
Counting of votes for some seats of Zilla Parishads, Pradhans and Members under Sawombung RO, Porompot RO, Keirao RO and Jiribam RO under Imphal East district; Patsoi RO; Lamlai RO and Wangoi RO in Imphal West district; Bishnupur RO and Moirang RO under Bishnupur district and Lilong RO; Thoubal RO and Kakching RO under Thoubal district have been completed so far.
Meanwhile, one Sinam Pradip, a candidate for Pradhan under Mongsangei Gram Panchayat has been reportedly detained and kept under police custody at Lamphel Police Station for complaining over discrepancies in the number of ballot papers in a ballot box from the earlier counted and approved.
The issue of the increase in ballot papers has been reported from polling station number 10/3 under Mongsangei Gram Panchayat.
According to Sinam Prakash, the Convenor of Election Committee, the ballot box too had been taken away from the polling station without being sealed by the Returning Officer.
The number of ballot papers in the said ballot box was earlier recorded as 701 .
However, when it was opened for counting today, the number of ballot papers was found to be 705 .
It was in this connection that the candidate Sinam Pradip went to lodge a written complaint with the District Election Officer.
There a squabble occurred and the complainant was beaten up by security personnel and was arrested.
On the other hand, supporters of K Servan Kumar, Pradhan candidate from Mongsangei Gram Panchayat blocked Mayai Lambi for a short while this morning demanding re-poll be conducted in polling station number 10/3, claiming that the rights of the voters cannot be curtailed by an error committed by the Presiding Officer.
