Senapati, September 18 2012:
"Who will now look after me and take me to school", cried the three and half years old daughter of the rifleman who went missing on 11th Sept.2012 after being reportedly picked by 22Assam Rifles at a Jiribam check post.
However, after five days of sleepless nights and tearful days with no knowledge of his whereabouts, the family finally broke out in joy when out of nowhere, the missing father and rifleman appeared early morning of 16th September.
P.W Haile Mao (44) of Purul Atongba Village is serving as a rifleman in 5Manipur Rifles but posted at Jagandhar, Jiribam subdivision under Imphal East Police District.
Recalling the horror and pain of being in the custody of the 22AR, Haile Mao recollected that after his holiday, he was going back to Jiribam, when personnel of 22 AR stopped him at their check post at around 7 am on 11th Sept and demanded for his ID card.
However, even after showing his service ID card and proper identification and explanation, he was immediately blindfolded, slapped and interrogated on alleged charge of having links with NSCN-K and NSCN-IM in Senapati.
Despite repeated appeals for his innocence, the security personnel made him suffer in a dark room for 4 days until he was taken and abandoned at a deserted house at the outskirt of Silchar.
