Along with arresting three PULF cadres, Assam Rifles have intercepted consignment of banned wildlife products and dope from three Maruti vans heading to Moreh yesterday.
According to statement by PRO Assam Rifles today, based on specific information regarding movement of PULF cadres from Imphal to Moreh via NH-39, troops of 20 AR established perma-nent vehicle check post at Bongyang.
At about 4.30 pm, three Maruti vans were segregated as the occupants were behaving suspicously.
On verification, three occupants were found to be active cadres of PULF (Azad) group, the PRO said, while identifying them as (Army no.302) SS Sep Md Atour Rahman (33) s/o Al-haj Nasib Ali of Lilong, (1512) SS Sep Md Musbaoddin (33) s/o Basiruddin of Lilong Usoipokpi and (187) SS Sep Md Ali (29) s/o Md Abdul Rahman of Moreh.
Thorough search of the three Maruti vans bearing registration number MN-01K/7839 (silver colour), MN-01K/8399 (Greyish Purple) and MN-01W/2148 (Green) led to recovery of 21,364 nos of Actifed tablets and 25 kgs of Pangolin shells from the possession of the arrested PULF cadres.
They were carrying these items with the intention of smuggling them to Myanmar and purchase war like stores after selling the smuggled items at higher price in Myanmar, the PRO said, adding that the arrested PULF cadres were handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station along with the recovered items at around 7.45 pm yesterday.
