The Congress did not get a clear mandate even though the party nominees won the elections, said Manipur People Party (MPP) candidate Th Chaoba today while observing the total votes in favour of other candidates was more than that of the votes secure by the Congress candidate in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary elections.
Congress could get only 2,30,876 votes in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency while 3,52,350 votes went to other candidates, Chaoba observed and said the number anti-congress voters is outnumber to that pro-congress.
Speaking at a press conference today at MPP office, Chaoba who fought the election in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency on MPP ticket and supported by the Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA), an ally of MPP, NCP, MSCP and NNP observed that even though in the election in a democratic country, the candidate with more votes won the election, the final figure of the votes cast showed that people of the state wanted a change in the state by uprooting Congress.
President of the MPP, Dr L Chandramani however admitting the defeat of the party said that even though the party hoped ofwinning the election, party unable to work at the grass root level, the hope shattered.
The party will take up steps to work to fill up the gap at the Core Committee and working committee level, he said expressing that the election result has taught a lesson to the party which would be the eye opening of the party.
Spokesperson of the MPP, MLA RK Anand observed that the party has put up the matter of protection of territorial integrity of the state and lawlessness in the state during its election campaign but unable on the part of the party to announced party candidate well in advantage, the party loss in the election.
Congress win over the election is the defeat of the people justice, Anand observed expressing fear of swiping people by money power alleging that money had broken the mandate of the people.
People seem to forget the continuing spree of killing under the Congress government in the state.
However, he expressed happy with the defeat of PDA candidate, sitting MP, Mani Charenamei who campaign with the propaganda of breaking the integrity of the state, in the Outer Manipur Parliament election.
The defeat of Mani Charenamei is the victory of the people of the state.
People have taught a lesson to him that none can talk to break the territorial integrity of the state.
The party shared to the happiness of the people on the defeat of PDA candidate, he added.
