Imphal, May17 2009:
Following objection of the Kangchup Road Young Physical and Sports Association (KRYPSA) to dump garbages at its ground at since May 14, Imphal Municipal Council has started scouting for an alternative site even as garbages generated in the Imphal Municipality areas including Khwairamband Bazar have started piling up.
Dumping of garbages from Imphal Municipal area including Kwairamband Bazar at KRYPSA ground located at Iroisemba began after signing of an agreement between the Association and the Imphal Municipal Council.
At the time of signing the agreement, Langol Youth Pioneer Club was also a signatory.
As per the agreement, the Council has to cover up the garbages after being dumped with earth, spray insecticide twice daily and erect fencing around the dumping area.
However, as these measures have not been taken care of by the Council, the local people who are concerned about health problem raised various complaints compelling the Association to decide not to allow the dumping of garbages at its ground anymore since May 14.Removal of garbages from Imphal Municipality area including Khwairamband Market has also been stopped as there is no dumping ground.
In connection with the opposition of KRYPSA, Chairperson of IMC asserted that the allegation of failing to take up necessary measures at the dumping site is not entirely true.
However, lack of adequate resources like machineries and manpower do cause some difficulties in implementing all the measures agreed in the agreement.
The chairperson also informed that steps have been taken up to locate an alternative site for dumping the garbages.
