Imphal, May17 2009: Doctors conducting medical check up to the villagers of Khordak area found villager there suffering from mental disorder like feeling of fear and panicky, sleeplessness etc.

Speaking to media persons, associate professor, p sychiatric department RIMS, Dr RK Lenin said during a medical camp conducted held at Khordak and surrounding village near the Loktak lake affected by "Operation Summer Storm" launched by the security force recently in the early part of April many of the villagers including children are found feeling uneasiness, feeling of fear, could not sleep at night, hearing of exploding sounds even there was no such sounds laziness etc detected.

The one medical camp was organized by the medical directorate joining hand with the Committee for Affected People formed by the villagers of the villages affected by the operation at Nongmaikhong Junior High School located at Khoradak Echin.

He, further giving account of the finding during the medical check up said young people of the area have sleepless nigh, could not study well, uneasiness etc.

They are not allowed to stay alone in their houses.

Same symptoms were also found to the children and women too.

The symptoms on them were developed in the aftermath of the Army operation.

If such situations continue to existing their mental state would be greatly affected, he said suggesting taking up steps to make reading habit, playing together and making them to participate among the rescuers of disaster management.

The more severe problem will be to those infants who are yet in the womb of the pregnant women.

What would be their conditions after birth could not be ascertained, Dr Lenin observed.

Seventy year old Ibetombi talking to this reporter said the prevailing situation was owing to the Army operation which villagers displaced themselves fear of shelling, firing etc.

More problems added to the villagers after the killing of non-locals by some miscreants after bringing there, she said.

In such conditions, some children even fainted on hearing voice of people gathering.

She also expressed her willingness to perform such medical camps frequently in the area stating that they feel secure on seeing the doctors.

The medical camp was organized with the monetary help given by Manipuris working at Bangalore.

They contributed 100 Euro after converting it to Indian currency.

The amount bought medicals, text books for the children.

Convener of the Committee of Affected People, NB Chandra said around 100 villagers have been treated in the first medical camp which was conducted by seven doctors, three each from RIMS, state health service and Bishnupur district medical office.

The observed check up with the problems related with skin,medical, mental, gynea and other illness of the women and children, he added.

Mention may be made that hundreds of villagers in and around the Khordak area faced displaced in the early part of April this year when security forces launched operation to flush out militants taking shelter in the Loktak lake area.
