Jiribam, June 29 2021:
Truck drivers of FCI and All Jiribam Road Transport Drivers' Union (AJRTDU) have strongly condemned forcible collection of Rs 2000 (godown tax) and Rs 500 per trip as gate pass in addition to annual tax by some unknown persons from trucks plying between Jiribam and Imphal.
Apart from submitting a written complaint in this regard to higher authority on June 16 with an appeal for bringing a solution on the issue, AJRTDU had warned of suspending service of unloading/transportation of rice load from train if the matter is not resolved.
As no positive response came from authority concerned when the train loaded with rice arrived on Tuesday, truck drivers under the aegis of AJRTDU stopped unloading of rice from train and launched steering down strike.
The train with 21 compartments loaded with FCI rice was still parked at Jiribam railway station till evening as drivers went on the strike.
Jiribam SP A Ghanashyam Sharma met striking truck drivers and later held talk with DC Jiribam but no understanding was arrived at till late evening.
