Churachandpur, June 29 2021:
At a time when the pandemic is anticipated to have dwindled in Churachandpur, mass testing conducted by the Medical Department in outlying villages identified as likely hotspots has continued to dampen the estimates as mass infections in these villages have send cases surging in the district.
Last week mass testing at Muallum village in Singngat Sub-division exposed that at least 59 people from the village were positive with COVID-19 .
The mass testing conducted in Upper/Lower Komkeirap as well as in Tuithapi village on Saturday and Sunday laid bare the fact that 27 persons from Komkeirap and 59 persons from Tuithapi have been infected with the virus.
The test positivity rate accordingly hovered above 10 percent in most of the days all through last week while on Saturday the RAT positivity rate soared to an all-time high of 35 percent.
Sources who have visited these villages believed that failure to follow Covid Appropriate Behavior, particularly of wearing face masks and social distancing is likely the main reason for the mass spread of the contagion.
The district authority have since announced a stricter implementation of the prohibitions imposed in the district but it is very unlikely' that it would have a substantial impact at the village level where similar cases could rear its ugly head anytime.
