Islamic scholars back vaccination call

Islamic scholars have issued a clarion call to Muslim community to endorse the ongoing Covid vaccination programme in the State and get vaccinated at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at the residence of WAQF Board Manipur's chairman at Haffiz Hatta, general secretary of All Manipur Madrassas Federation, Mufti Salatur Rahaman likened vaccination against Covid to teachings of Islam.
Salatur said that it was unfortunate to learn that many false beliefs and claims about Covid vaccines are circulated among Muslim community thereby hindering people from getting vaccinated.
He clarified that Covid vaccine is in no way against Islam and its followers.
As Covid vaccine is meant to save lives, endorsing the vaccine is akin to following the teachings of Islam, he said while appealing to all religious leaders, Imams and teachers in Madrassas to create awareness about the need of vaccination to Muslim community.
Attending the press meet, secretary of Islamic Cultural Research Organisation, Maulana Khurshid stressed on the importance of taking up stringent action against those spreading ambiguous and misleading claims about Covid vaccine.
Such claims have instilled fear and fuelled hesitancy among the Muslim community, Maulana Khurshid said while adding spreading of rumours and misleading news is strictly against Islam as written in Holy Quran.
With endorsement of Covid vaccine, people of holy Mecca have successfully protected themselves against Covid, he said.
Vaccines are safe and meant to protect people from the virus, he said and appealed to all not to waste the vaccination opportunity and help contribute in the fight against the pandemic.
