Imphal, June 29 2021:
The Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA), Manipur has made it clear yet again that they will boycott online classes and examinations in the Government colleges, as announced earlier including those in Dhanamanjuri University from July 1, 2021 if the Government fails to issue orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulation, 2018 by June 30 .
A press release issued by the federation stated that the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulation, 2018 should be as per the MoU of 6th March last signed between the Government and FEGOCTA.
It said that a reminder was also submitted to the Education Minister, Chief Secretary etc to issue the orders by June 30 on June 21 .
Saying that the above decisions were taken in the virtual emergency General Body Meeting (GBM) of FEGOCTA held on June 28 last, the statement continued that it was decided that the Higher Education Department headed by the Education Minister should take responsibility in case of any disturbance to the ongoing classes and examinations.
The orders should be issued by June 30 as 7th UGC Pay is to be given from July 2021, it added.
Continuing that the GBM condemned the non-implementation of National policy of UGC in Manipur since November 2, 2017, the federation contended that college teachers in Manipur have been demoralised and mentally harassed due to 'discrimination and repeated betrayal by the Government'.
"As citizens of democratic countries, the college teachers have the 'moral and Constitutional right to protest against injustice and discrimination," it said and added that States such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura had already implemented the National policy of UGC before the COVID-19 pandemic.
