Flood situation worsens in Jiri

Jiribam, June 20 2022:
Flood situation in Jiribam district has worsened with prices of essential commodities rising in due to disruption of road connectivity.
Incessant rainfall in the last few days has caused water from of Jiri River and its tributaries flooding many parts.
Many localities and roadways have been inundated with flood water.
Flood water has also reached the areas of Sorok Atingbi Kamrangkha Muslim, Islamabad, Kalinagar and other areas under Barak circle.
The examination of Jiri College, which was scheduled to begin from Monday, has been postponed as all the roads leading to the college have been flooded.
Several fish farms and farmlands with standing vegetable crops have also been submerged under flood water.
Meanwhile, movement of heavy vehicles has been stopped on national highway connecting Jiribam and Cachar in Assam due to occurrence of numerous landslides on the highway as well as caving in of a culvert near Aho-Arang.
As aftereffect of the flooding and disruption of road connectivity in the district, prices of essential commodities brought from outside have skyrocketed with 1 kg of potato going up to Rs 50 and tomato Rs 200, etc.
