Imphal, July 28 2021:
BJP Manipur Pradesh Protocol Committee chairman and Manipur Food Industries Corporation Limited vice-chairman K Sarat said that the development works taken up in Jiribam district are being executed in the interest of the public and urged the local MLA to support in taking up these developmental works.
Addressing a press meet at New Secretariat here on Wednesday, Sarat took serious note of the MLA, who reportedly stated that development of Jiri-Tipaimukh Road is under the purview of the government and to let the government handle the work.
Sarat made it clear that he took up the work after consulting community leaders and CSOs in Barak circle areas keeping in view of the importance of the road in transportation of PDS rice to Pherzawl district.
While reiterating that the construction of the road was initiated subsequent to appeals by the people of Pherzawl district, Sarat opined that speaking against the development work instead of supporting it shows the MLA's stand against the BJP government.
Besides, the road is an important link for the people of the areas, including the pineapple farmers.
Repairing of Borobekra bridge was taken up following request from the local people as the bridge has become a threat to the public, especially children.
He also repaired the Dibong Karong to DC office road, which leads to the MLA's home.
It helped the people in the area during this pandemic and the MLA should have shown his support.
Only if the MLA was concerned for the welfare of the public, he would have taken up the development works as well as repaired the damaged culvert at Dibong Karak long before, Sarat said.
The Jiribam MLA has failed to act as the representative of the people, he contended, while also asking the whereabouts of the MLA's local area development fund of Rs 2 crore allocated for a year.
Pointing out that a hostel for a residential school hostel in the district was earmarked for construction at Sorok Atingbi but it was shifted to Lalpani, Sarat asked how the project has been relocated there and demanded to furnish document if it had anything to do with official programme.
While alleging that the hostel is taking admission in violation of the seat reservation guidelines, Sarat stressed that even if the MLA played a major role in the formation of the BJP government one cannot deny the fact that he had also sided with the opposition party to pull down the government.
Taking serious note of the conduct of the MLA, Sarat urged the public to support him (Sarat) in the forthcoming state assembly election while assuring of blacktopping all roads in Jiribam and complete the construction of the western gate if he got elected.
