Congress, BIPL felicitate, reward Mirabai Chanu

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Wednesday felicitated Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and presented a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh to her.
Speaking at felicitation function held at Ibudhou Khamlangba Mandap, Nongpok Kakching, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader O Ibobi described Mirabai's performance in the Tokyo Olympic Games as a proud moment for the state.
"Sports must not be tainted by politics.
Only those who have worked hard, are committed and talented deserve the glory and their success cannot be bought by money", he remarked, while wishing for more talented individuals like Mirabai to come forward in the future.
Recounting Mirabai's experiences of dealing with questions relating to the location of Manipur during her training days, Ibobi said that an educated person ought to know how many states are there in India and where they are located.
He then prayed for MC Mary Kom to win a gold medal in the ongoing Olympics.
In his speech, MPCC interim president N Loken said that Mirabai's win in the Tokyo Olympic has proven the saying that Manipur is a sports powerhouse.
Her journey has been extraordinary and her family has been magnanimously sharing her success with everyone.
He then prayed for success in all her future endeavours, while also praying for other players to achieve victory in the games.

Mirabai said that she had been working hard for the last 5 years to win a medal in the Olympics.
She was previously disheartened on not being able to win a medal in the Rio Olympics but swore to win in the next games.
Narrating her frustrations on people not knowing where Manipur is located, the Olympian appreciated PM Modi for sending her to get training in the US and the people of Manipur for their wishes as well.
On the other hand, Bharatiya Infra Project Limited (BIPL), Imphal managing director Ningombam Ibo-chouba presented Rs 2 lakh to Mirabai Chanu in honour of her winning a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday, in the presence of office bearers and volunteers of United Committee, Langthabal.
Ibochouba also presented Rs 10,000 to L Anita Chanu, the first coach of Mirabai for introducing the sports to the Olympian.
Speaking in this regard, Ibochouba, who is also United Committee Langthabal chairman, expressed elation over Miraibai's win, adding that the latter has brought glory and recognition to the state.
He also appreciated PM Modi and CM Biren for awarding the post of Additional SP (sports) to Mirabai in recognition of her win.
He then wished success to Mirabai in all her future competitions and assured of extending all possible help in this regard.
