Imphal, July 28 2021:
To commemorate World Hepatitis Day, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) and CORE Diagnostics jointly organised a free Hepatitis B & C screening camp for the general public at the hospital on Wednesday.
In a release, SHRI Business Development manager L Premjit Singh informed that the camp was organised to raise awareness on viral hepatitis amongst the masses and total of 100 individuals including the staff of the hospital availed the opportunity.
At the screening camp, people from different walks took the test with some visibly excited to avail the free service while few others expressed concern over the pending test result.
Informing that SHRI has been actively organising hepatitis sensitization programmes and free camps for the general public, the release also said that SHRI encouraged its new employee to undergo compulsory hepatitis immunization programme.
The release further said that World Hepatitis Day is observed every year on July 28 to raise awareness on the viral hepatitis, which is an inflammation of the liver usually caused by a viral infection that results in a range of health problems, including liver cancer.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that Hepatitis B and C are the most common cause of deaths across the world claiming 1.1 million lives and 3 million new infections each year.
However, nine in 10 people living with viral hepatitis don't know that they are infected by the virus.
If undiagnosed, it can be deadly.
No one should have to live with this infection without a diagnosis.
Yet, almost 90 per cent of people living with viral hepatitis are unaware of their health condition.
Don't wait, get tested.
A hepatitis-free future is possible with a united effort, the SHRI release added.
