Imphal, July 28 2021:
Youth Congress (YC) presidents of Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh have condemned the ever-increasing incidents of aggression and force used by the Assam government against its neighbouring states in the past few years.
In a joint release, Arunachal Pradesh YC president Geli Eti, Manipur Pradesh YC president Mahananda Nungleppam, Meghalaya Pradesh YC president Richard Mrong Marak, Mizoram Pradesh YC president Dr Lalmalsawma Nghaka and Nagaland Pradesh YC president Limayangba Longkumer stated that since the appointment of Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief minister of Assam such incidents and use of police force have increased alarmingly.
Civilians in the bordering states of Assam are bearing the brunt of these aggressions, where farms lands and crops and infrastructure are damaged forcibly and civilians harassed and intimidated frequently by Armed Assam Police.
These Incidents are causing a lot of ill-feeling amongst the people of North East India, and has caused serious damage to the unity and sister-hood of the North Eastern states, the joint release said.
The joint release alleged that heightening of tensions shows the total failure of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), and the ensuing situations have proven yet again that NEDA was never created for the development and unity of the North East states, but only for grabbing political power in the North East by any means by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
"We condemn the actions of Himanta Biswa Sarma, CM of Assam, for his continuous efforts to inflame the situation and his repeated attempts to malign the neighbouring states, when in fact it is under his chief ministership that situations have deteriorated and incidents of unprovoked aggressions have spiked.
We reiterate our belief that he is responsible for the worsening of tensions between the North East states,"it said.
"We strongly believe that Himanta Biswa, from his actions, is not fit to hold the august position of the chief minister of Assam, and we demand that he is removed as chief minister of Assam by the BJP leadership so that we can have a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere in the North East again," the YC presidents demanded.
