44 AR organises mass tree plantation drive on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day

Commemorating World Nature Conservation Day, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector AR/ IGAR (East) have undertaken a massive 'Tree Plantation Drive' in Tamenglong district.
Awangbow Newmai, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister, Govt of Manipur started a three days long plantation drive by the unit to plant 21,000 saplings.
He along with Tamenglong ADC Chairman and Commandant, 44 Assam Rifles planted a sapling each at Jadonang Park to commemorate the event.
Following the Forest Minister, plantation drives were undertaken by unit troops in other parts of Tamenglong and Kangpokpi districts.
Battalion carried out a large-scale plantation drive in which local varieties of saplings were planted.
On this occasion, the battalion achieved a rare feat by planting approximately 11,000 saplings in a single day.
This was the highest number of plantations done by GREEN WARRIORS of the battalion on a single day.
The minister lit a.lamp symbolising the start of renovation and revitalization of Jadonang Park, Tamenglong by the unit.
The park was inaugurated by Rani Gaidinliu in 1982 .
It is an important recreational centre in the town.
The unit shall revitalize the park and dedicate it to the public as part of Azadi Amrit Mahotsav.
On this occasion the minister also released a pamphlet on Van Mahotsav activities by the unit this year.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commandant stated that Assam Rifles is committed to contribute towards improving the ecosystem of the region.
This year the theme of the world Conservation Day is Forests and Livelihood: Sustaining People and Planet.
He urged the locals to take up green initiatives at whatever level they can.
These collective baby steps will make a huge leap in improvement of the environment.
In continuation with the afforestation driye where 44 Assam Rifles achieved a landmark by planting one lakh saplings of local varieties last year, the unit has continued its efforts to protect and boost the biodiversity of the area by conducting Van Mitra and Van mahotsav campaigns this year.
Celebration of "World Nature Conservation Day " is in continuation of battalion green initiatives, which is aimed to raise awareness among local populace regarding ecosystem conservation and sustainable management of all types of forests for the benefit of current and future generations.
