Imphal, November 26 2021:
Langthabal BJP Mandal has strongly condemned the incident that occurred at BJP state secretary and party's intending candidate for Langthabal AC Pukhrambam Somorjit's residence at Chajing Pukhri Achouba Mapal on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at Langthabal BJP Mandal office on Friday, Mandal president Maibam Joykumar said that the Thursday evening's incident at Somorjit's residence wherein incumbent Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam pulled out a gun was indeed an attempt to divide party workers of Langthabal AC.
Though MLA Karam Shyam joined BJP recently, BJP Langthabal Mandal is yet to get any written communique in this regard and hence the Mandal does not recognise MLA K Shyam as of now.
It was uncalled for a leader to pull out gun and threaten party workers instead of defusing the situation when workers of two intending candidates engaged in a fight, Joykumar said and strongly called for conducting the upcoming election in a peaceful manner in -the true spirit of democracy.
BJP Langthabal Mandal vice-president Khoirom Tomba, who personally witnessed the incident, told media persons that discussion was held with former Mandal president and executive members about raising party flags and beautihcation along highways in Langthabal area in connection with the visit of BJP national president JP Nadda and later went to intending candidate Pukhrambam Somorjit's residence.
However, Somorjit was not present at his residence as he went to receive JP Nadda at the airport and there was scuffle among some three/four people.
After the scuffle was settled amicably, a large number of people gathered at Somorjit's residence and there was heated argument between the two groups of people.
Amidst this, a woman named Tombi, residing at Somorjit's residence was hit by hockey stick by one from among those who stormed the residence and she is still undergoing treatment at RIMS, Tomba said and strongly condemned MLA Karam Shyam's action of threatening people instead of pacifying the agitated people.
Meanwhile, supporters of Somorjit staged a sit-in-protest against the incident along the side of Imphal-Moreh road on Friday and raised several slogans against gun culture.
