2nd India International Dance Festival held

Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal director Pukhrambam Bilash Singh has stated that efforts are underway to introduce dance song courses of recognised tribal groups in the state, in addition to the existing courses on Mao and Kabui groups.
He made the statement while speaking as chief guest during the Second Edition of 'India International Dance Festival' organised by Atinga in collaboration with Samskriti, Odisha, as part of the former's 8th Foundation Day celebration at JNMDA auditorium, here, on Sunday.
Bilash continued that JNMDA, with its many different performing art courses, has produced many talented students and played an important role in preserving the culture and tradition of the state.
He contended that one is responsible for preserving his/her own culture, adding that culture, tradition and custom of the different in digenous groups of the state are famous the world over.
Observing that there is no shortage of artistes in Manipur, the JNMDA president, however, remarked that not all of them have the opportunity to showcase their potential at suitable platforms.
As such, he lauded Atinga for organising 'India International Dance Festival' and providing a platform to artistes to showcase their talents, while urging all concerned to support this initiative.
In his speech, North East Zonal Cultural Centre, Dimapur ex-member and Sahitya Akademi awardee Saratchand Thiyam said that culture and tradition are part of our identity, with performing arts being an important part of the same.
In addition, culture and tradition have not escaped from the effects globalisation.
Despite the changes, it would be wrong to stand aside and watch our culture disappear.
Japan is now at the forefront of everything because its people have never forgotten their origins.
Thus, Manipur could emulate this attitude, he suggested and urged for concerted efforts in preserving the state's rich cultural heritage.
Presided over by Atinga president Loitongbam Biramani Singh, the festival was attended by Art and Culture deputy director (programme) G Dharmadas Sharma as guest of honour.
Later, artistes from Delhi, Maharashtra and Manipur presented group and solo dance performances.
