Dr Ronel honoured with Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Award

Ophthalmologist Dr Ronel Soibam was among few doctors of the country who were honoured with presentation of "International Opthalmic Heroes of India" by All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) at the society's Dreamcon Annual Conference held at Jio Convention Centre, Mumbai last week.
Forty seven years old Dr Ronel, who Specialises in Vitreo-Retina, said he was honored by AIOS for winning the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) achievement award held in Hongkong in September 2021 .
Other Indian doctors, who were honoured in the Mumbai event, too bagged awards in several international conferences, he said.
Dr Ronel, who is also former senior consultant of Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya Guwahati, along with his wife Dr Surpriya Hawaibam, a former consultant of the same healthcare unit, is setting up a private eye hospital in Imphal this year.
As present, Dr Ronel is the professional member of All India Ophthalmological Society, Delhi Ophthalmological Society, All Assam Ophthalmological Society and Vitreo Retinal Society-India.
He is also the lifetime member of Ocular Trauma Society of India.
A resident of Heirangoithong Keibung Makha in Imphal West district, Dr Ronel did his MBBS in GR Medical College, Gwalior in 1999 and PG (MS) in Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh in 2007.He completed General Ophthalmology fellowship in July 2008 and Vitreo-Retinal training in October 2009 at Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati.
