Imphal, October 05 2011:
The Utra Shanglen, Sana Konung in an open notice asked the Manipur Pandit Loishang to abstain from performing the religious ceremony of Kwak Tanba which they are planning to perform on October 6 at Ningthem Pukhri Mapal.
The notice stated that such customary practice is the prerogative of the Pibarel of the state (the present king, Leishemba Sanajaoba) and his Phamnaibas including the Senapati appointed by the king according to religious, cultural and customary tradition and practices of the followers of Sanamahi religion.
It alleged that the notice of Manipur Pandit Loishang to perform the ceremony on Thursday as reported in the local media is an open insult to the religious feelings of the followers of Sanamahi religion and has outraged their religious feelings.
It also challenged to take up legal action for punishment if the Pandit Loishang performed the ceremony by bringing up some other person as the Senapati and usurping the prerogative of the Pibarel.
