Ukhrul, October 05 2011:
The United Naga Council (UNC) on Wednesday has declared that it will intensify its ongoing blockade along the National Highways in Naga areas to register its protest and objection to the nefarious design of the government of Manipur.
In the Presidential Council meeting held yesterday, the UNC resolved that "the economic blockade would be intensified as it has become necessary to constantly register our protest and objection to the nefarious design of the communal Government of Manipur to legitimize the carving out of our traditional land for upgrading/creating new revenue districts" .
Iterating the earlier agreement with the state government, the apex Naga body asserted "the wishes of the Naga people on the issue of Sadar Hills have been expressed in the 4 Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of Manipur and the same had been brought to the public domain through press statement and public demonstration" .
The UNC, however, alleged that the Government of Manipur has been maintaining an indifferent stance, while failing to initiate any communication with them.
"The response of the communal Government of Manipur has been to constitute a Committee on Re -organisation of Administrative and Police District boundaries and is conducting a public hearing in Imphal away from the real stakeholders," it stated.
The Naga body raised an objection against the manner in which the state government is dealing with the Sadar Hills issue.
"The state government is bent on weakening the unity of the tribal by throwing the spanner of upgradationwith a view to snatch our land" .
Terming the Government of Manipur's move as "irresponsible," the UNC argued that the intention is "to create further disharmony among the communities in the state" .
The organization also made it clear that the Nagas will continue to "fight against arbitrary bifurcation and division of land" without their consent.
"Every Naga village and tribe have their own distinct territorial boundary and jurisdiction.
There has never been any confusion on the ancestral land of the Nagas be it among the Nagas, the neighbouring communities or the state government," it asserted.
