Imphal, October 20 2021:
Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) along with members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) have cautioned of launching intense protest from October 27, if the state government fails to disburse the central funds meant for PRIs at the earliest.
The announcement was made after a meeting of PRI members convened at Panchayat Bhavan in Porompat on Wednesday.
Speaking to newspersons in this regard, MSPP president MD Abdul Latif expressed strong resentment that the state government is yet to disburse MGNREGA funds including the tied funds for the 2nd installment of 2020-21, tied funds for the 1st installment of 2021-22 and untied funds for PRI.
Despite repeated talks with the government on the matter along with submission of memorandum, no positive action has been taken up on the matter till date.
Stating that MSPP will no longer submit a memorandum in this regard to the government, Latif said that both MSPP and PRI will jointly launch protests from October 27.As part of the protests, posters displaying the order copies of the funds sanctioned by the centre will be pasted at the front gates of all houses falling under the jurisdiction of the Panchayats, he added.
Questioning why the funds sanctioned for the public have been withheld by the state government, the MSPP president urged for releasing the funds at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Latif condemned the alleged assault of Ngangom Kunjarani, the pradhan of Maibam Leikai GP in Hiyangthang CD Block by a man, while she was inspecting the developmental works in the area.
He then demanded the authority concerned to initiate strict action against the accused man, befitting the crime committed.
