Imphal, October 20 2021:
The state government has failed to provide financial assistance for supporting education of children of recognised construction workers for the last three consecutive years, according to Manipur Building and Construction Workers' Welfare Association.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, association secretary W Bina informed that Manipur Building & Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board secretary K Bono issued a statement informing that the board would not be providing financial assistance to the registered workers for the year 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21.Terming the statement as violation of rights of the workers, Bina demanded the reason for not providing the financial assistance.
She demanded the board secretary to resign from his post for not only denying the financial assistance for education of their children but also for keeping in pending the old age pension and medical claim of the workers.
She drew attention of the chief minister to look into the matter and take up necessary actions.
On the other hand, she on behalf of the association, strongly condemned monetary demand served to Northern Manipur Building Workers' Union by an armed organisation and said that there is no surplus fund for the organisation except for helping poor workers in time of their needs.
