All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) Bishnupur District Committee seeks monetary support for observing '26 Student Emancipation Day' on May 28 at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School.
In a press release issued AMSU Bishnupur District Committee General Secretary, M Mani, said that on September 30, 1973, a student of Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School was mercilessly shot by police during an agitation demanding the rightful school amenities from State Government.
Besides five students were sent to 'lock up' by the police in a bid to suppress the agitation.
However the agitation spread out.
The brutal policy of the police was then condemned by many students who marched towards the police station asking to arrest them also.
However, the agitation turned violent when the officer-in- charge locked up all the students and recklessly fired at them injuring many students.
Two students later succumbed to the injuries on May 28 as no medical assistance was allowed by the police.
The dead students were identified as Uritkhinbam Khelen and Kumam Sarat.
Since then May 28 is being observed as 'Student Emancipation Day'.
Accordingly, floral tributes will be made to the photos of the late heros and a general meeting will also be held.
