Imphal, May 03 2015 :
Giving a serious jolt to the State Government's efforts to check power theft through introduction of pre-paid meter system, two power consumers were pulled up by staff of Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) for tapping power unlawfully.
One MSPDCL official said that two power consumers residing at Tharon and Lamphel Quarter Type-III under Lamphel Division-I of Imphal Electrical Division-II were pulled up for tapping power unlawfully by skirting the power line around pre-paid meter.
The matter would be informed to the relevant police station for further action, said the official.
All the efforts of the company to ensure round the clock power supply through introduction of pre-paid meter system have been given a serious jolt by such practice of tapping power unlawfully.
Whereas the State Government has been spending Rs 25 crore in purchasing power in a month, revenue collected in the form of power bill stands at just around Rs five crore, said the official while appealing to all the people to tap power lawfully and use power judiciously.
The company would soon launch a special drive to check all forms of tapping power unlawfully, the official added.
