Imphal, April 03 2018:
The imbroglio surrounding Catholic School, Canchipur over the transfer of its Principal has been resolved following an agreement reached between parents, local guardians, transporters of the school and Archbishop's House, Imphal today.
Normal classes of the school will be resumed from tomorrow as Archbishop Imphal agreed to revoke the transfer of the school Principal.
Following the agreement, teachers of the school appealed to the parents to send their children to the school from tomorrow.
They expressed gratitude to those who extended help in striking the agreement.
Mention may be made that students of the school had staged a sit-in protest on March 28 last in protest against the transfer of the school Principal.
One of the teachers of the school had contended that Principal Father Soni Thomas received a verbal order for transfer from Archbishop's House, Imphal.
According to the teacher, the transfer of Father Soni Thomas was related to an incident of rejecting an instruction from the higher authority of Archbishop's House, Imphal for taking loan.
The authority had instructed the Principal to take a loan amounting to Rs 2 Crore for construction of the school building.
The Principal and the teachers/parish leaders held a meeting wherein the instruction was rejected.
The instruction for taking loan was rejected by the meeting in consideration of the burden the school has to bear in the present and future.
The loan to be taken has to be repaid within 10 years with interests.
The transfer of the principal came soon after the rejection of the instruction.
