Imphal, October 04 2022:
Directorate of Environment and Climate Change has installed an automated weather station, which will provide hourly update, at Gularthon village in Jiribam district on Tuesday.

For wider coverage and precision, the directorate recently took up the initiative of installing 20 more weather stations across the state, he said.
Considering the difference in weather and climatic conditions in different parts of the state due to varying altitude, the directorate requires weather stations at strategic locations to collect data for reference.
The ongoing process of installing 20 more weather stations is progressing well.
So far, 12 weather stations have been installed with the latest at Gularthon village in Jiribam district and installation of the remaining eight will be completed by the end of the current month, Brajakumar confided.
He also informed that the new weather stations are called telemetry weather stations they will facilitate hourly update on micro climatic condition to the department's server.
The data parameters include temperature, rainfall activities, solar radiation, wind speed & gust among others.
The directorate is planning to identify eco-sensitive zones through these weather stations, which will help in understanding the climatic condition and contribute in the fight against climate change.
In the past, the state had only one weather station at Imphal Airport followed by another at ICAR.
The directorate will now have 37 weather stations, which will give a significant boost to the activities of the directorate, he added.
