National Games: State archers shine with four medals; bronze for fencing team

Manipur put up a strong showing in archery to collect four medals including two gold, coupled with a bronze medal in fencing on the sixth day of the 36th National Games on Tuesday.
The day's performance helped Manipur dislodge Punjab from the sixth spot in medal tally.
Okram Naobi Chanu dazzled in the women's individual Indian round event to win a gold medal for Manipur in archery.
Naobi sealed a thrilling 6-5 victory against Gujarat's Rathva Amita Ganpati in their final duel at Sanskardham Ground, Amedabad, Gujarat.
The men's archery team too did the state proud by winning the men's Indian round team event.
The state quartet of M Chingkhei, L Naoton, K Borish and Ch Nelson swept to a 6-0 victory against Services Sports Control Board in their summit clash for their gold medal.
On the other hand, Manipur's women's team faltered at the final hurdle of the women's Indian round team event and settled for the silver medal.
The state women's team composed of W Maleshwori, L Tomthinganbi, O Naobi and L Rojina lost 3-5 to Kerela in the final.
L Rojina, who was part of the women's team, also added a bronze medal to her kitty after finishing third in the women's Indian round event (individual) as Manipur rounded off the day with four medals in archery.
The other medal of Manipur was secured in fencing by the women's epee team comprising Rk Rebeka Devi, Linthoi Haobam, S Chingkheinganbi and O Sanatombi.
With the day's results, Manipur moved up to sixth place in medal tally with 13 gold, five silver and 11 bronze.
Meanwhile, Manipur's campaign in badminton ended after Meiraba Luwang and the pair of K Dingo and Kh Manjit suffered defeats on Tuesday.
Meiraba was beaten by Tamil Nadu's Sathish Kumar (22-24, 21-13, 21-14) in the men's singles pre-quarterfinal while K Dingo and Kh Manjit lost 18-21, 13-21, 18-21 to Karnataka's duo of Nithin H and V Vaibhaav in the men's doubles quarter-final.
