AR recovers Covid vax, test kits, contraband items

Imphal, February 26 2022:
Troops of Tengnoupal Battalion of IGAR (South) foiled an attempt to smuggle Covid vaccines and RAT kits from India to Myanmar on Saturday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a vehicle moving from Imphal to Moreh during a search operation.
On detailed search of the vehicle, 200 vials of COVISHIELD vaccine (2000 doses) and 299 Rapid Antigen Test kits were found concealed in the body of the vehicle.
The two traffickers travelling in the vehicle were detained and subsequently handed over to the Police authorities along with the seized medical items, it added.
Troops of the same Battalion also recovered contraband items worth Rs 6.59 lakh in the district on Saturday.
Informing that the troops uncovered a large number of packages concealed in thick foliage near Kwatha junction during a border domination patrol, the PRO said search of the packages led to recovery foreign-made cigarettes, cosmetic items, betel nuts and liquor.
The recovered items have been handed over to Custom Preventive Force, Moreh for further investigation.
