One arrested with 2.988 kg of gold bars

Imphal, April 07 2022:
A team of Kakching District Commando Unit on Thursday arrested one Prakash Chhetri (23), son of Ratan Chhetri of Moreh Ward No 8 while trying to smuggle 18 gold bars weighing 2.988 kg in total, during a frisking and checking operation at Pallel check post.
Briefing the media in connection with the case at his office on Thursday, SP Kakching Shrey Vats informed that after receiving a reliable report, a team of Kakching District Commando Unit led by Subedar Ksh Prakash con ducted frisking and checking operation at Pallel check post.
During the operation, a Maruti Eeco van (MN01AS-8825) heading towards Imphal from Moreh driven by the accused was stopped for checking.
On searching the vehicle, 18 gold bars were found hidden in a false chamber in left door.
Each gold bar weighing 166 gm was packed in a plastic sheet and was engraved with a large 'W' at the top and three small 'w' at the back along with a large 'W', he informed.
The SP further informed that the accused and seized item have been over to Customs Department for further legal action.
Meanwhile, Subedar Ksh Prakash and his team were rewarded Rs 50,000 by the SP Kakching in appreciation of the seizure of the gold.
