Imphal, October 21 2013:
Pointing out that hard work is the main key to success, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Francis Ngajokpa has encouraged the tribal youths to start giving their best without waiting for the next day, at the 30th Annual Freshers' Meet cum Get Together, 2013 of Modern College Tribal Students' Union, Porompat which was held at the Multipurpose hall of the college under the theme "Learn and Serve" .
Francis Ngajokpa, who graced the function as the chief guest said that even though the tribal youths possess talents, they hardly get selected in competitive examinations mainly due to the lack of hard labour with determination in their preparations.
As such, the number of unemployed tribal youths is increasing with the ever increasing population and the number of rejected candidates in the state's and central service examinations exceeding to the selected ones.
He added that consistent hard work pave the way to a successful life and no one has been created by decision.
Maun Tombing, president of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) who was the guest of honour said that even though the government has been notified time and again to improve the education system in the hill districts of Manipur, no effective measures have been taken up which shows their negligence towards the backward sections of people.
Many schools are paralysed and ATSUM also came across some schools turn into cowshed which is very disappointing.
Out of the total of 3294 teachers posted in the hill districts, only few were found to attend classes and tribal students still seek schools of the valley districts to get better education.
He added that ATSUM had also demanded for proper medical facilities in hill districts which included 250 specialist doctors and 250 member doctors in the 1st ROTO phase.
The state government had given positive response to the demands made but effective action for its implementation has not been made till date.
The 2nd phase of ROTO has also begun and the student body declared that if their demands are still made pending, then many forms of agitations will follow.
ATSUM highly condemned the government action of inclusion of 18 hill districts in the panchayati election.
Maun Tombing also accused the government that there have been many conflicts due to improper defining of the hill districts.
The government has been trying to take up mining of natural resources in the hill without prior information and notices to the concerned people which is violating the United Nations Indigenous Right, he added.
Many entertainment programmes like cultural dance, solo and group songs remain the main attraction of the function.
Principal of Modern College, Dr..KBiren also attended the function as the president.
