Road mishap claims student, NH 2 sealed in protest

Imphal, January 16 2013:
Following a road accident near Jakhama in Nagaland which claimed the life of a student while leaving two others injured, National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur Road) was shut down by protesters.
The incident occurred at around 4 pm on Tuesday when a Dimapur bound truck from Imphal hit three students who were walking along the highway.
Reacting against the accident, locals of Jakhama came out and blocked the highway leaving all the passengers and goods trucks stranded on either sides of Kohima town.
Sources from Kohima said that family members of the victim are demanding a compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the truck owner.
Police patrolling has been stepped up prevent any unwanted incidents as the town is tense after the incident.
