Imphal, February 15 2022:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has stated that the Bengalis residing in Manipur should prevail upon Amra Bangalee to withdraw its case in the Supreme Court, seeking removal of ILPS from the state.
Addressing a press meet at JCILPS office here on Tuesday, Committee convener in-charge Luwangcha Chingkhei said that there is no sign of Amra Bangalee, which is adamant to form a separate Bengali state, withdrawing its petition from the Supreme Court seeking removal of ILPS from Manipur.
The Bengalis residing in Manipur have been advised to urge for the withdrawal, but they are staying out of the matter, stating that they are not involved.
However, it is entirely impossible to believe that the Bengalis in Manipur are not involved, considering Bengali's attempts to make Tripura into a 'Bengalitian' state.
Their next target just happens to be Assam and Manipur, he remarked.
Presently, 3 districts of Assam and Jiribam district of Manipur have been occupied by Bengalis, making the Meitei a minority in Jiribam.
Amra Bangalee's move is basically challenging the indigenous people of the state, not just the Meitei community.
It is possible for a non-local to try and contest polls from the hills in the near future, considering the unregulated entry of outsiders in the state despite the presence of ILPS, he added.
Chingkhei continued: "Over 80 percent of people entering the state are migrants belonging to labour class.
If this continues, there is no question of what would happen to Manipur in 10 years.
Thus, the indigenous community of the state need to work together keeping the long term vision in mind, otherwise Manipur would become the next Tripura" .
