After meeting Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and submitting a memorandum today seeking NRC exercise before census, 14 CSOs Kangleipak is poised to go to Delhi and meet Union Home Secretary and Chairman of the recently constituted High Level Committee Demographic Change.
Representatives of the 14 CSOs Kangleipak may go to Delhi on July 5 and seek appointments with the Union Home Secretary and Chairman of the High Level Committee Demographic Change.
They will be urged to postpone Census 2027 exercise for Manipur until NRC is updated, Shanta Nahakpam, convenor of the 14 CSOs Kangleipak said, speaking to reporters after meeting the Governor.

Briefing media persons about the meeting with Bhalla, Shanta said apart from submitting a memorandum, the Governor was impressed upon to take up steps to update National Register of Citizens (NRC) before Census 2027 exercise in Manipur.
Shanta said the meeting which lasted about an hour discussed many issues facing Manipur and significance of updating the NRC to detect, identify and deport illegal immigrants.
While the Governor shared his view on the importance of conducting the census, the 14 CSOs impressed upon him the ramifications the exercise could have if conducted prior to updating the NRC, Shanta said.
The Governor was clearly told that conducting the census before updating NRC could yield an erroneous demographic data which has forefingers being recorded as citizens in the census, Shanta said.
Identifying NRC as the only available mechanism that could identify forefingers and protect the genuine interests of the indigenous communities, Shanta said, the Governor was also urged to revive the Population Commission and propose its inclusion as a nominee in the Centre's High Level Committee on Demographic Change.
