General strike continues

Normal chores continue to be affected due to the indefinite general strike called by the JAC against the brutal murder of Junior Research Fellow Ningombam Satyabhama.
Even though there is no report about strike-related major incident as police maintained strict vigil as vulnerable locations, suspected strike supporters put up road blockades in between Lilong and Moirangkhom areas along the Imphal-Moreh route with similar protest also witnessed as Keishamthong Road.Near Manipur university main gate strike supporters laid logs and boulders to block vehicular movement since early morning.
At Khwairamband Keithel, the main commercial centre in the State, many traders downed the shutters for the as the general public apparently preferred not to venture into the market places due to apprehension of trouble breaking out any time.
Today being Sunday most passenger carriers also ceased service thereby resulting in the streets wearing a deserted look.
The JAC has been demanding arrest of the murder suspect(s) and refusing to accept Satyabhama's corpse, which was recovered from a canal on April 5 .
The strike is being enforced since April 6 morning.
