Camera snatched

A journalist who covered as well photographed City Police seizing a vehicle which was on publicity round seeking public support for the ongoing general strike against the murder of Ningombam Satyabhama was threatened by an SI before his camera was snatched and the photographs deleted.
The incident happened within the complex of City Police station this afternoon.
Some people were going around in greater Imphal area in a Bolero jeep fitted with a PA system asking shops to close in support of the general strike.
As the Bolero jeep stood still under BT Flyover, Shamu Makhong, a police team led by City Police ASI Y Sunil came there and said that no loud speaker can be used there without permission from the District Magistrate.
Along with the vehicle, those people who were on publicity round were apprehended by police.
On learning about this, a team of media persons went to City Police station.
There one SI named Tolminthang Khongsai asked the women to come down from the vehicle as the driver was instructed to remove the PA system from the jeep.
The act of removing the PA system was photographed by Naharolgi Thoudang Sub-Editor and AMWJU Standing Committee member Kshetri Meghajit.
In the next moment, SI Tolminthang Khongsai came to Meghajit and snatched his camera before deleting the particular photographs.
Later, a team of media persons led by AMWJU president A Mobi went to City PS and talked with high-er authorities of the police station and the two parties came to an understanding.
