Cleanliness drive conducted

With an aim to save Chakpi river from plastic pollution, Monsang Pantha Youth and Cultural Club organized a one day river cleaning drive at the said river, yesterday.
Around 150 youth of Monsang Pantha village took part in the drive.
River stretch from United College, Chandel site till the end of Monsang Pantha village settlement, which is around 4 km, was cleaned during the drive.
A board that aim on spreading awareness on pollution and the use of fishing bombs and chemical on the river were also posted in few strategic locations of the river.
Speaking at the event, club president, Ng Salim Peter said that it is the responsibility of everyone including the youth to protect and preserve the environment including water bodies and rivers.
He also said that continuous awareness should be carried out to check excessive felling of trees, using of fishing bombs and poisonous chemicals for fishing in the river.
One of the active youth members, Ts Grace Monsang said that many more campaign to save Chakpi river and prevent pollution of various kinds, especially plastic pollution, will be initiated in the near future.
Saying that Chakpi river all along the village settlement areas has become a dumping site of plastic bottle, alcohol bottle and other plastic wastes, he added that the drive was conducted not only to clean the waste but also to spread awareness to protect the river from further degradation.
