Public meeting held at Oinam

A public meeting organized by Action Committee for Drinking Water Oinam was held at Oinam Khunyai Community Hall yesterday regarding the non-supply of tap water in different villages covered by Oinam Municipal Council in Bishnupur District for the last 5-6 months and many decisions were also taken during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Chairperson, Oinam Municpal Council, N (o) Sanahanbi Devi; retd ZEO S Tomba Singh; retd Telecom Officer M Romesh Singh and retd Teacher O Ibochou as key persons in the presence of many villagers.
Regarding the meeting, Committee member O Hemanta Singh said that the meeting was held to take collective decision of the villagers to urge the concerned PHED to make the Oinam Water Supply Scheme functional which has stop supply of potable water for the last 5-6 months causing tremendous hardships to the villagers due to acute shortage of drinking water.
He further cautioned the EE of PHED to take up immediate remedial measures to address the problems of the public failing which the villagers will resort to violent agitation to meet their basic demands.
In the meeting, all the members present resolved to urge the authority concerned to make Oinam Water Supply Scheme functional at the earliest for continual supply of water in the region, to fully construct the Accelerated Urban Water Supply Programm & Scheme for Oinam at the earliest possible time to solve the water crisis in the area, to keep reservoir of Oinam Water Supply Scheme neat and clean, to submit a memorandum having all the resolutions of the meeting to the concerned PHED to initiate and translate all their demands into action by June 8 and to launch various forms of agitation from June 9 if their demands are not met within the dateline.
During the meeting, it has also been resolved to elect Oinam Hemanta as Convenor of Action Committee for Drinking Water Oinam, Nongthombam Susindro as Co-Convenor, Chongtham (o) Anoubi Devi as Treasurer.
