128th death anniversary of Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri observed

In connection with 128th death anniversary of martyr Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri, All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union (AMGSU) on Sunday conducted a cleanliness programme at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
Speaking on the sideline of the event, AMGSU president LB Adhikari said that Subedar Niranjan Singh Chhetri who revolted against the colonial ruler was hanged to death at Kangla Western Gate by the British on June 8, 1891 .
The cleanliness programme was organised to pay respect and homage to the martyr, he said and called for collective efforts in making Manipur clean and green.
Schools, colleges, Government offices, hospitals and public places should be kept clean in order to keep Manipur clean, he said urging all to begin cleanliness at their homes and localities.
He further said that AMGSU is looking forward to working with NGOs, students, clubs and other organisations to conduct cleanliness drives at places in Manipur.
As RIMS is a healthcare destination for people all over India, the hospital was chosen for the cleanliness programme, he said and added that its is everyone's duty to keep the hospital premises clean, healthy and hygienic.
RIMS Medical Superintendent Ch Arunkumar launched the cleanliness programme from the main gate of the hospital.
About 250 volunteers took part in the cleanliness programme.
