Imphal, June 02 2019:
UNACCO School and UNACCO Staff Association on Sunday organised "12th Khongman Meritorious Award Ceremony, 2019 & 5th Felicitation Programme" at the premises of the UNACCO Multipurpose Hall, Khongman, Imphal East.
A total of 91 students (Class X and XII) were felicitated at the event.
Speaking at the event, All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) president Bijoy Kakchingtabam opined that prevailing tuition culture can be controlled if the teachers educate the students sincerely with dedication in school classrooms.
Saying that tuition culture increases workload of the students and give them little time for other activities and leisure, he underscored that parents and teachers have major roles to play in developing and grooming future of the children.
Parents nowadays have a preconceived idea that their sons and daughters will not be able to get high marks if they don't join tuition/coaching classes.
Children are sent to two or three coaching classes a day.
They are driven to even skip meals to attend coaching classes, he said explaining the consequences and impact this culture/trend has on the physical and mental health of the children.
"When parents are busy grooming their children with tuition after tuition, their children have little to no social exposure.
The children may become doctors, engineers and IAS officers someday but they will have little to no actual knowledge of the social system of which they are part of.
They may not even understand their social responsibilities," he said explaining the importance to let the children interact with their environment, friends and families.
Chairman UNACCO School, N Irabanta Singh highlighted a wide range of career options students can choose and explained that only engineers, doctors and civil services are not the default options.
They can become successful businessmen or even politicians, he encouraged students to widen their horizons.
Imphal East Zilla Parishad Member Seram Neken, member of UNACCO Social Development Trust Longjam Shyamananda Singh, former Dean of School of Social Sciences Manipur University M Iboton Singh, retired Commissioner P Bharat Singh and former Registrar Manipur University Th Joychandra Singh also attended the event.
