Sagolband Constituency Progressive Committee and Sagolband Block Congress Committee have jointly organised "Sagolband Constituency Meritorious Award 2019" at Kuki Inn, Old Lambulane, yesterday.
Altogether 120 meritorious students of Sagolband AC who came out with flying colours in the recent examinations conducted by BOSEM, COHSEM and CBSE were feted with awards.
Speaking as the chief guest of the event, Sagolband AC MLA, RK Imo pointed out that though good marks are important in students lives, it alone cannot mold a career.
Guardians and teachers have a major role to play in guiding their wards in the right direction, the MLA said and appealed all to support their children by letting them pursue the career option of their choice.
Private Secretary to CM, L Chongloi, retd Prof, Imphal College & Principal of HRD, Ghari, Lourembam Kamakhya Singh, retd Additional Director, Higher Education (U), Dr K Nabachandra Singh and Chief Finance Officer, Manipur Police Department, Akhup Haokip also attended the programme.
St Thomas High School, Kontha Ahallup, Imphal East also felicitated its meritorious students of this year HSLC examination conducted by BOSEM, including the 3rd position holder Moirangthem Julendia Devi, during a solemn function held at its auditorium, yesterday.
Social Welfare and MOBC, Director, Ng Uttam Singh, St Thomas High School, Headmaster, PV Vakey, Zonal Education Officer, Zone II, M Premchandra Singh, Deputy SP, Manipur Police, A Khelendro Singh and father of M Julendia Devi, M Surjit Singh attended the programme as the presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Ng Uttam conveyed that one should not consider education as a means to get Government jobs only but a measure to develop personnel, social and economy of the State as well as the Nation by applying the knowledge they have gained in their respective fields.
"With the introduction of many scientific methods and technologies in farming, seasonal vegetables and fruits can be devoured in any time of the year, that too is a contribution of education," he added.
While speaking about the ill effect of mobile phone on students lives, Uttam said that any item or technology like mobile phone have both merit and demerit and it all depend on how one individual employed it.
