Green Sunday observed at Ukhrul, Senapati

In support to the movement of World Environment Day celebration all over the world, Phungyo Baptist Church (PBC), Ukhrul in collaboration with Ukhrul Divisional Forest office observed Ecological Green Sunday, today.
During the observation, DFO Ukhrul, Shangam Shali enlightened the gathering about the fast degrading environment due to different human activities.
Saying that anthropogenic activity has caused immense ecological imbalance like global warming, depletion of Ozone layer etc, the DFO added that collective effort is needed to control environmental pollution.
He also urged every members of PBC to take part in forest rejuvenation programme.
As part of Ecological Green Sunday programme, over 1000 saplings were distributed to the gatherings.
Awareness rally from PBC to Mission Ground Alungtang and Wino Bazar were also held as part of the programme.
SENAPATI: As part of an initiative of the Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) which is observed every year to show the concern for environment, the Poumai Baptist Church, Senapati has observed Green Sunday today on the first Sunday of June.
More than 2,000 people gathered to attend the observation.
Speaking at the occasion, D John Sha, MFS, DFO, Senapati Division, Senapati spoke on the theme, "Renew our World" and said that over population, mass cutting of trees and killing of wild animals have led to global warming which has resulted in scarcity of water, outbreak of different diseases etc.
He also urged all to spread the awareness of the need of preserving and protecting trees and wild animals for a balanced ecological system while adding that many people have not realised the need to keep Senapati river neat and clean which is filled with waste disposal.
The DFO also asked all to plant at least 5 trees in a year to fight global warming.
As part of the function, around 1,500 saplings were distributed after the morning worship service.
