International Literacy Day celebrated

The 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) celebrated 'International Literacy Day' at Anallon Christian Institute (Higher Secondary School), Lambung, Chandel district on September 8 .
The Literacy Day was a platform to spread awareness amongst the local populace.
The people were convinced that literacy is not only limited to reading and writing but also means to understand own duties and to empathise with other people.
Literacy is the solution to remove poverty, unemployment and other problems from society.
The locals were made aware about various educational programmes like Mid Day Meal Scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rajiv Gandhi Literacy Mission, Adult Education Programme and other important initiatives started by the Government.
Meanwhile, the 4 Assam Rifles Battalion organised a community meeting at Phaisangjang near Indo-Myanmar border on September 8.The village chiefs and secretaries along with the villagers of Yangoubung, Thingphai, Gamphazol, Changpol, T Nampao and Khumkot villages attended the meeting.
The meeting brought out the immediate problems being faced by the locals and measures initiated to alleviate these problems, an AR release said on Wednesday.
