Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute under Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in association with Department of Botany, University of Delhi, HESCO, Dehradun and Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology IHBT (CSIR), Palampur will organize the First Himalayan Conclave - 2015 from September 9-10 at University of Delhi.
Professor KVijayaraghavan, Secretary, Government of India, Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi will be the Chief Guest and inaugurate the function.
Himalayas have been the soul of the world by virtue of its cultural, ecological and economical values, but unfortunately the importance of Himalayas and ecosystem services was underestimated, said a press release.
Deterioration of the Himalayas due to inadequate attention has threatened life supporting resources.
Status of forest, water, air and soil has become alarmingly grim and Himalayan resources have been shrinking fast.
Recent natural calamities in Uttarakhand, Kashmir and Nepal are some of the most recent examples, added the press release.
Therefore, it is high time to have a debate and in depth deliberations on status and health of Himalaya.
