New Mushroom species discovered

Over 20 new mushroom species have been discovered by an 18-member research team during a mushroom research programme conducted under the supervision of former Dean of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Prof N Iboton and CAU Associate Professor RK Tombisana at Nongmaiching hill on September 6 .
The research programme was conducted under the aegis of Mushroom Growers Association, Manipur (MUGAM), said a statement.
Apart from mushrooms of different colours like black, violet, pink, species which look like flowers and grow on trees were discovered during the research programme.
The team also came across different medicinal plants and a rare lily during their research programme.
The statement said that the research programme was conducted with an aim to make available nurseries of rare and indigenous mushrooms to
mushroom growers.
