The JAC constituted against the murder of P Memi has urged the Government to hand over the murder case over to a fast track Court and ensure that all those involved in the murder are awarded befitting punishment.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, JAC Against the Brutal Killing of P Memi Chanu president Longjam Basanta Meitei said that there have many such cases of murder in the past and some of the accused might have escaped punishment due to laxity on the part of investigating teams.
Given such precedents and possibilities, the murder case of P Memi should be handed over to a fast track Court and police should do the investigation part meticulously so that none of those people involved in the murder escape punishment, Basanta said.
A public meeting held on August 21 at Ikou resolved that all those involved in the murder of Memi should be awarded exemplary punishment.
26 year old Memi Chanu of Ikou Keithel went missing after she left home at around 11 am of August 14 and she was found dead in Iril River near Arapti Ketukhong on August 17 .
One prime suspect of the murder case identified as Yumkhaibam Rohit alias Rajesh (29) s/o late Riyajuddin of Khergao Makha Leikai was arrested by a joint team of Imphal East and Kangpokpi police on August 20.He is currently lodged in police custody.
One accomplice who is said to be a juvenile has also been arrested by police.
Meanwhile, the Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup has condemned the murder of Memi in the strongest term and urged the authorities concerned to award befitting punishment to all the culprits without any undue delay.
