Luxury stolen vehicles case ; Bail please of accused rejected

Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East rejected the bail application filed by the counsel of suspended Assistant Sub Inspector of Manipur Police, Ravi Ngangom and instead remanded him to judicial custody till September 6.The accused suspended ASI of CID Crime Branch, Ravi Ngangom (26) s/o N Kunjabihari of Thoubal Lamding Ngangom Leikai (present staying at 2nd Manipur Rifles complex) was produced before the Court by a team of Imphal PS with a prayer of judicial custody for further investigation of the stolen luxury vehicles case.
The vehicles were recovered from the possession of the accused.
On the other hand, the counsel of the accused filed a remand objection along with a prayer for releasing Ravi on bail.
The IO of the case, through the APP, submitted that in continuation of their drive in Imphal East and Imphal West against stolen vehicle and registration of stolen vehicle, Anti Vehicle Theft Team, after getting specific information about the presence of some such stolen vehicles in the premises of the accused, conducted a search operation on August 20.During the search, AVTT found one Harley Davidson motorcycle (white in colour) and one Toyota Fortuner (white) both of which did not have any registration numbers and no valid reason to be present inside the premise.
During verification, Ravi could not give any satisfactory explanation about the presence of the said vehicles.
Further verification through VAHAN portal and HSRP record showed that the Toyota Fortuner (with a tampered chassis number) was highly suspected to have been stolen from Maurya Enclave, New Delhi.
Additionally it was also found that 'the Harley Davidson motorcycle was also in a stolen vehicle case at Dimapur PS.
As such, the accused was arrested at around 4.30 pm on the same day after observing necessary formalities and both the stolen vehicles were seized by AVTT.
During preliminary interrogation Ravi revealed that the seized Toyota Fortuner had been in his custody since July this year, in connivance with one Prafi (35) of Senapati town.
It was also revealed that the accused, again in connivance with another co accused Devan Singh of Singjamei Wangma Bamon Leikai, had been keeping the stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle in his custody since 2015.The co accused of the case (Devan) is still at large.
The IO continued that it is also suspected that a number of persons involved in vehicle lifting will surely be uncovered during the course of the investigation as the vehicle lifters always form a gang to create a perfect team and as such prayed for judicial custody remand of Ravi for smooth investigation of the case.
The Court, after hearing the submission of both sides, rejected the bail application filed by the counsel of the accused and remanded Ng Ravi to judicial custody remand till September 6 .
