Imphal, July 19 2013 :
Janata Dal (United), Manipur State Unit has drawn the attention of the State Government towards development of the deplorable National Highway No.37 in the wake of thousands of vehicles being stranded at Nagaland along National Highway No.2 due to landslide.
Addressing media persons at the office of JD (U) at Babupara here, State unit President M Tombi stated that the State Government should stop remembering Imphal-Jiribam Road (NH-37) only at the time of distress along Imphal-Dimapur Road (NH-2).Thousands of trucks carrying essential commodities towards the State are now stranded at Nagaland due to landslide, he noted.
Moreover, the alternative routes to the State, namely Jessami Road and Imphal-Jiribam Road are at their most deplorable condition with no hope to the stranded truckers.
The stranded passengers and truckers are now facing problems with Nagaland Police forcing them to leave the State via Jessami Road, Tombi said.
The State President further said that stocks of essential commodities are depleting fast in the State.
Thousands of people have started to line up in front of oil pumps to procure petrol and diesel.
Such situation could have been avoided if the State Government takes keen interests in developing Imphal-Jiribam Road instead of letting the Border Roads Organization (BRO) dilly-dally the road development works, he added.
He also appealed to the State Government to control excessive price rise and ensure continued availability of essential commodities to the public by checking black-marketing and hoarding of commodities.
