Manipur People Struggle Committee, the apex body of nine different organisations, has joined the chorus in demanding revocation of Government's decision to convert the Royal Palace into a historical monument.
Members of the Committee today took part in the sustained sit-in protest against the Govt's takeover plan of the Royal Palace under the aegis of Sana Konung Semgat Sagat Lup.
Manipur People Struggle Committee is the apex body of nine organisations including Irabot Research and Commemoration Committee, All Manipur Democratic Women's Front, All Manipur Intellectual Forum, All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers' Welfare Association, Students' League Manipur, Youth League Manipur, All Manipur Peasants' Union, Unified People Struggle Committee and People Price Monitoring Committee.
Working president of People Struggle Committee, S Shyam Sunder who took part in the sit-in today warned that a mass agitation is imminent unless the Government revoke its decision to takeover the Royal Palace.
He said the people of the State would never let the Government to takeover the Royal Palace, where many rites are performed to symbolise the unity of Hill and Valley brethren, after many blunders committed against its people since the signing of the Merger Agreement.
Vice-president of SKSSL, Momon Leima said the State Government has long been failing to notice the pulse of the people.
It is highly questionable whether the Government is there for the people or against the people.
Saying that many traditional practices have been preserved through the institution (Palace), Momon urged all concerned to join in preserving the Palace.
